Book of Consciousness

The Recognition at the Heart of All Creation

A. E. McMillian

Book of Consciousness teaches the nature of consciousness and the realization of the self at its greatest depth. It is written for the reader who already senses that they are more than their thoughts and is ready to know directly what they are.

Where most spiritual writing circles the recognition, this book transmits it, unfolding one teaching slowly and completely until it lands. Consciousness is awareness itself, the silent presence in which every thought, sensation, and perception arises. Ordinarily attention points outward, lost in its objects, and the presence within which they appear is passed over. The book turns attention back toward that presence and follows the recognition to its end: awareness resting upon its own source, the knower and the known dissolving into one, the self revealed as a localized intensity of the single living awareness from which all things take form.

This is among the most advanced realizations the contemplative traditions point toward, and possibly the deepest there is. Drawing on the Upanishads, Patanjali, and the teachers who examined the mind most closely, while claiming no ancestry it does not have, the book asks no prior commitment to any system. It offers a transmission rather than an explanation, written to bring the reader into direct recognition of the one thing every reader already is.
